The Youth Challenge is designed to increase physical activity levels for teens as well as to improve their dietary habits. Each lesson plan is designed with these objectives in mind. Through increased physical activity and improved diet, participants will start to lose weight, reduce fat, build strength, reduce girth, improve body functions but most importantly they will build confidence in themselves. This confidence has been shown to have spill over effects which have resulted in past participants being motivated to join sports teams and excel, get jobs and even inspired one student to run for class president, which she won. Her first accomplishment as student body president: led a petition by students to improve the quality of food in the cafeteria. The result: the entire school menu was revamped with healthier options for students.
The Youth Challenge is a structured 12-week program that combines physical activity and nutritional counseling in a way that stimulates adolescents and their families to make healthy lifestyle changes. During the 12 weeks, up to 50 participants meet 3 times each week, twice on weekdays and once on weekends. The weekday sessions, which occur during after-school hours, focus on physical activity and exercise while the weekends are reserved for the educational component, focusing primarily on nutrition. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate, especially in the weekend sessions, so that they can learn how to support their child's lifestyle change while at the same time learn something for themselves.
Our proprietary fitness and nutrition curriculum was developed by recognized experts in the areas of fitness and nutrition. Through a healthy mix of group exercise classes, competitive games and nutrition workshops, the Youth Challenge really takes an immersion approach to healthy lifestyle education. The results speak for themselves.
What makes the Youth Challenge an attractive model is the comprehensive data collection. Throughout the program we continuously collect and analyze data on the participants so that we can monitor trends and make adjustments before the program is over. From Fitness Assessments to Nutrition Assessments and even a proprietary Activity Assessment, we can document exactly how much the program has had an impact on the participants that we have served.
I was looking for a program my son Billy and I could do together as a family. We really are eating healthier and exercising together. He seems more self-confident already!
